An example of a 4d elcectron orbital. The probability distribution is smeared over space so a 2D image is fuzzy and difficult to interpret. Cones represent “nodes” with zero probability, “solid” shapes are used for better visualisation of the shapes of orbitals, but their appearance depends on scaling factors even though all represent the same input data.
