A prototype of an motor with a sensor-free bearing. The magnetic bearing is exposed at one end of the motor. There is a cylindrical magnet fixed to the /shaft (at each end of the motor). The lifting force is provided by the electromagnets (the coils with the wire). The information about rotation and shaft position is derived directly from the driving coils, rather than by a dedicated sensor (which is the more common solution). The coils are driven in a three-phase system. The technology was demonstrated by Institute of Energy Systems and Electrical Drives, Vienna University of Technology at Coiltech 2015. sensor-free_magnetic_bearing_-_magnetica.jpg
