Waveforms illustrating the concept of the Step Voltage insulation test. The blue waveform (bottom) show the applied DC voltage, whose amplitude is increased by 500 V every 60 s. The resulting leakage current (red) is measured, and the value at the end of each step is recorded (green point). The curve traced by the green point should be a straight line for healthy insulation. For damaged insulation the leakage current will become disproportionally larger for higher voltages (it will “accelerate” towards higher values).
