Trafo (or TRAFO) - an abbreviation of the word “transformer”.1)2)

The abbreviation trafo is used frequently as jargon in Central and Eastern Europe, for instance in Germany3), Poland, Russia, etc., especially in languages in which the word is even longer: transformator (rather than transformer as in English).4)

There are many transformer-related companies world-wide, who have the word “trafo” in their name: General Trafo (Hungary)6), Trafomec Group (Italy)7), Poltrafo Sp. z o.o. (Poland)8), Trafo Power & Electricals Pvt. Ltd. (India)9), and many more.
