Idealised gapped magnetic core

For a simple gapped inductor, with a magnetic circuit with a uniform cross-sectional area throughout the whole magnetic path, the value of inductance L can be calculated from the following equation:

where: $μ_0$ - permeability of vacuum (H/m), $N$ - number of turns (unitless), $A$ - cross-sectional area of the core (m<sup>2</sup), $l_{gap}$ - length of air gap (m)

Note: The equation is valid only for a simple magnetic circuit, with cross-sectional area of the core and gap being equal, and if lcore » lgap, and µcore » 1.
