Definition of left-handed and right-handed system of coordinates, with the vector cross product $\vec{c}=\vec{a} × \vec{b}$ expressed with fingers outstretched at right angles.

In a right-handed system, the right-hand rule can be used to determine the direction of the vector cross product.
