Compliance voltage
Stan Zurek, Compliance voltage, Encyclopedia Magnetica, https://e-magnetica.pl/doku.php/compliance_voltage |
Compliance voltage - maximum value of output voltage which can be generated by a current source (also signal or energy source), whilst still maintaining the required parameters of output specification.1)
Performance of a 1 A current source with 2 V compliance voltage - the specification of the nominal current of 1 A can be maintained only up to the compliance voltage
S. Zurek, E-Magnetica.pl, CC-BY-4.0
The compliance voltage is a parameter useful for instance in real current sources, which have to supply the required current into real load. The required current can be driven only up to a certain voltage level, which is the compliance voltage.2)
Higher compliance voltage is usually desirable, but it would require increasing value of power, for which the internal power supply has to be designed. The same concept of compliance voltage can be also used for some current sensors.3)
